Soap

Well the last few months have been interesting but some fun stuff has happened too, in August I was brave and made the move from melt and pour and hand milled soap to really going back to scratch.  I've been making what is called CP or Cold Process soap, if you don't already know what CP is it's when you take lye and oils to make some pretty marvelous soaps. I did about 2 years of research before I took that step but I must say all the hard work was sure worth it.

I know so many people think OMG you used lye to make soap, but really real soap has always been made with lye, up until detergents came along. My skin has become sensitive due to years of illness and the treatments, and the detergents in most store bought soaps made it worse.

any was from time to time i may share some of my soaps as they become ready to use like this one

I know pretty cool looking right.

So here is the deal I need some people to try my soaps and some times other things and give me feedback, so please give a holler if this would be something you would want to try.

I've added some new supplies to my Etsy shop http://www.etsy.com/shop/pixybratt

French Green Clay Masque

So I thought I might post a masque recipe.

The mask I'm making today is great for teens with acne problems, and adult acne as well, as just giving a deep cleaning.

French Green clay for it's excellence in drawing out impurities from the skin.
Honey, it is said to be have natural anti-bacterial properties, and it just feels good on the skin, you can use honey or honey powder depending on what you have on hand.
Peppermint invigorates and enlivens the complexion, while also treating the nose to stimulating aromatherapy, while you can use peppermint EO it is easy to get too much in the mix, and it better to be saved for something else. You can use peppermint tea like sleepy time just open the tea bag and add to the mixture.
Aloe Vera Juice, it soothes the skin, I used the juice not the gel because the gel has a thickener added, and if you have the green gel the type for sunburns it also has an additive to help take out the sting which isn't really needed in this case.

  • 2 tbs green clay. (French Green Clay is highly efficient at drawing oils and toxins from the skin)
  • 1 tsp Honey, or Honey Powder (Honey is said to be a natural antiseptic due to its tendency to absorb the life-sustaining moisture out of bacterial cell walls.)
  • 1 tsp Peppermint leaves, or peppermint EO (1-2 drops) Peppermint invigorates and enlivens the complexion, while also treating the nose to stimulating aromatherapy.
  • ⅓ tsp Aloe Vera  Juice (soothes the skin)
  • 1 tbs Chamomile tea or purified water (or enough to make paste)

Once you have finished mixing in the liquid, begin applying the paste to your face in circular downward motions, and don't forget to apply it to your neck as well. You will want to try and avoid the eye area as the skin on the eyelids is pretty sensitive.

Now sit back and relax for 20 minutes and let the masque do it's work.

Once the masque has set on  your face and neck for the allotted 20 minutes use a damp steamy wash cloth to pat the mask off trying not to rub.  you can do this either at the sink or in a nice hot shower.

I like to wash my face after with a nice goats milk soap, than apply the moisturizer of your choice.

I Hope you enjoy!

Making Herbal Salve

Lets make an Herbal Salve

* 1 oz Cocoa Butter or Shea Butter
2 oz of infused oil
2 TBS Beeswax
* Essential Oil of choice
* Vitamin E

Warm 15 second intervals in microwave until Butter and beeswax is melted, stir until completely mixed.
You can also add a drop or 2 of essential oil at this point, mix well then pour mixture into a small, shallow, glass jar and let it cool until solid.

If you find the mixture too soft reheat and add a little more beeswax. If it is too hard reheat it and add a touch more oil.
Be sure to wait until the mixture is completely cool before you put the lid on, then you can label the container.

Aloe Vera

Here is a little info you might find helpful about Aloe Vera, not just the Gel that most of us know about but the Juice and you can get this in powder for as well.
Juice is pretty inexpensive and you can find it in the health food Stores and I think some of the CVS stores carry it as well. Prices range from  $11  to $35 a gallon depending on what type you choose.

Keep in mind this is different from the green Aloe Vera Gel you may put on sunburns, which has a thickener added as well as a bit of numbing medication.

I keep the powder on hand myself which can be found in a  many herb stores online.
